Uncle NED’s In Town Today…….

For those of you who are not familiar with medical terminology NED means “No Evidence of Disease”. To say I’m relieved would be an understatement. The closer I got to seeing my consultant the more and more every lump bump, ache, niggle and pain became mets. Crazy I know, but I suspect this is the nature of scanxiety. Oh well, lets put that behind me until this time next year.

If I’m honest I feel at bit non-plussed about the whole thing, a complete anti-climax given how much I’d built it up in my head. She’d looked at the chest x-ray, looked at my blood test results and all was ok. I was expecting her to then do an ultrasound as that’s what I was told would happen, but instead she popped me up on the couch, listened to my chest, felt around the scar tissue, my neck glands etc and that was it, I was packed away with a couple of forms to bring back next year and told to have a blood test and x-ray the week before I see her next. That’s the routine for the next 5 years so she says.

I did find out finally what the likely cause of the hermatospermia was, she said it was probably a small stone (piece of calcium) in the tubes that can sometimes cause irritation. Nice to get an answer on that and also nice to know that nothing needs to be done. Very common for men.

I take comfort in knowing that I probably have one of the best teams in the country with her and Paul Nathan and she is pretty adamant that it wont come back which is why I suspect she’s doing the motions with me. Her comment was that it tends to come back in the first year if at all.

So lets hope that now uncle NED’s back in town he’s decided to settle in for good…. lets hear it for uncle NED!!

  1. Great news - now you can get back to pretending work is stressful when you know full well what stress is - it makes those with ‘work based’ over reach feel comfortable hiden behind stress!
